So, if a guy plays 3 GREAT seasons and vanishes while another guy plays 3 GREAT seasons and has 12 good seaons, they are equals in my mind. I only care about ranking the GREATEST players of all time, the pretty goods, goods and mediocres don't interest me.

I can't agree with the premise that longevity is irrelevant. A GM would more often than not choose a guy who'll give you 10 80 point seasons than 2 100 point ones.
I'm guessing you're not a Ripken fan then ?
