Truer words. It would definitely be manna from heaven and would help the reconstruction of the league by quite a bit.

At the same time I wonder if they're thinking that a June date is now less urgent. If an NBA lockout happens, ESPN will be scrambling for programming. That might actually be a better time to approach the network.

But all this might mostly depend on what ESPN wants. They might not be willing to enter into a "backup" contract with the NHL right now.
