I don't find either of them to be "really bad hockey players", and depending on my team needs I'd take either of them for $500k per season. Although there are a finite number of specialists you can have on a team. If I could have a good PK forward who also played physical or scored 8 goals a year, I'd take him over Pyatt. If I could get a defenseman who could score 10 goals and shoot on the PP but also play even average defense, I'd take him over Bergeron.

It's not all that complicated. But I think Pyatt's limitations are more naturally going to earn sympathy... he has "no talent" but hustles and succeeds despite his limitations. We admire those who work against their limitations. Whereas the perception would be that Bergeron has a certain amount of natural talent, but hasn't been able to make more of his career than that. As if his defensive limitations were something he could fix if only he would focus and work hard on them.

It's not actually as easy as that in the NHL hockey world, of course, otherwise every god-given talented player would be a star, and every kid in their backyard could work their way onto a 4th line PK role.
It's sad for Ryan White. Poor kid, it was suppose to be his year (but the coaching staff prefer to put a defensemen on the third line+Pyatt and Eller with an average of 0 goals and 0,5pts this year...) Pyat... For a rare time in my life, I can't stand a player of my own team
I don't have any sympathy for White, though. He's probably my favourite Habs prospect, and I hope he'll be my favourite player one day. But it's not "his year". Tom Pyatt outscored him last year in the AHL. Tom Pyatt is faster and more reliable than him this year. White has come a long way, but he still has just 2 goals more at the AHL level than Pyatt does at the NHL level. He has to work on some things too, clearly.
