You can't just add up salaries and production and say that though. There is a lot of extra value in being one really good guy. Is Ovechkin as dangerous offensively as both Getzlaf and Eriksson? No. But then Ovechkin can have two other forwards on the ice with him and Getzlaf and Eriksson can only have one. It's not a fair comparison. Neither the Ducks nor the Stars can put out a line as dangerous as the Caps can.
Obviously having the same players for less money would help, but I don't think its something we absolutely need. Out of that list, only 3 teams really strike me as contenders with these bargains: Datsyuk in Detroit, Sedins in Vancouver and Backstrom in Washington.
The Sedins line costs more than the Crosby line but are they actually producing more than Crosby? Backstrom and Datsyuk are certainly great deals though.
