Ah, you're fundamentally missing the point. If someone is complaining about the production of player X... and their production rate is to that of a good season, then the complaints are without merit. That isn't to say he could go into a 20 game funk and then there WOULD be reason to complain. However, when a player is producing at a good rate, then you shouldn't be complaining because you have unrealistic expectations.
What's more, while the sample size we have for Zherdev this year is small, it isn't really that comparable to the rest of his career really. This is a very very different situation than he's been in before. So we don't really know if his performance this season (at least statistically) is as anomalous as it might seem, or if that is close to how he would produce on this team over a longer period of time.
Sure... but it's a small sample size in this window, so to suggest he's some brand new player is premature.
On top of that, Zherdev's numbers aren't that remarkable. His +/- on is 0.52, which is only ahead of Shelley, Coburn, and Carcillo.
