And yes, it can get worse. He's not been generating many chances since he's been put with Cammalleri, but he hasn't given the opposing team much ever since the start of the season either, so he's still neutral-to-better most games on scoring chances. If he starts bleeding chances against then we'll have a problem, and I don't see how moving him to LW wouldn't lead to that -- especially since the Habs don't have a replacement center who can fill his spot (and no, Eller can't just yet).
Carrying the puck may be the central piece to his game, but right now he generates nothing off the rush. And I'm not suggesting Eller's ready- I'm just saying put him there for a couple games to give Gomez a different look.

Sometimes it can be easier to make plays coming in on the wing, too.
