No.

Compare the last Nolan team with the Stanley Cup team. Not the Nolan team that had a healthy Lafontaine, Hasek and Peca on it yet still missed the playoffs, but the one in his second year.

In Nolan's Doghouse, but not Ruff's
Satan
McKee

Established under Nolan (or before), no change thereafter
Peca
Ward
Primeau
Smehlik
Ray
Zhitnik

Improved under Ruff
Grosek

Became regular under Ruff
Brown
Varada

Only played under Ruff
Juneau
Woolley
Barnes
Sanderson
Patrick
Warrener
Kruse
Roloson
Grand-Pierre
Cunneyworth
Rasmussen

Played well under Nolan, not under Ruff
Holzinger
Shannon (this was age)

Preferred to play under Ruff:
Hasek

If Ruff didn't come around and get McKee, Brown, Varada and Satan playing important roles, we don't make it to the ECFs, let alone the Cup. Nolan left NOTHING behind. You hear how Ruff has depended on Hasek, try Nolan on for size:

Ruff with Hasek: 115-76-37 .586
Nolan with Hasek: 59-50-16 .536

Ruff, no Hasek: 101-120-34-9 .464
Nolan, no Hasek: 14-22-3-0 .397

Ruff is a superior coach to Nolan.
