The Habs have been wallowing while a number of other teams in the East have been surging. Both the Habs and the Bruins are in real danger of missing the playoffs. When the Habs lost to the Avs they created a game in hand for the Bruins, who promptly handed it back to them by losing to the Ducks (not the strongest team in the West) at home. It comes dowen to this: The Habs are playing in the weakest division in the NHL. They may not end up with the 8th best record in the conference but all they have to do to make the playoffs is finish ahead of the Bruins. If they do that, they'll end up with the#3 seed. The win against the Bruins last week was monumental. Personally, I think the Habs will edge out the Bruins and by doing so they'll send their old rivals to to an early golfing vacation. I'm convinced that Thomas will wear down sooner than Price and the Bruins will be forced to use Raskolnikov, with his 2-7-1 record, more than they'd like.
