If you found equal contracts, you could trade first, then buy-out, and then re-sign you old player..
I posted a simlar concept on the Business board ..

The problem with this new reported rumour on buyouts is that is really allowing teams to get rid of bad contracts and rewarding those players for under performing under the old CBA, almost as a big signing bonus would, money up front..

To them its almost like they didn't miss all of last year because when they renogiate another contract that counts for the current year, and the buyout rewards them for last season in a way.

But while as you pointed out above the Flaw it doesn't help teams with OLD CBA deals with good players like Sakic, Sundin, Lidstrom, Brodeur, etc reset their contracts to new CBA levels ..

Basically it rewards poor players and lets teams get out of bad contracts allowing them to go sign another player, but does not address good players with large contracts and Team Cap room. Again well run teams do not benefit as much as poorly ones do IMO but this option.

Now are you not really giving teams the incentive to find ways around this as you suggested ?
