Building a team in today's NHL is all about free agency, though. That Kovy contract is going to cripple them moving forward, not to mention the other bad deals Lou has given out to older players, compounded by Parise's imminent raise and I don't see any possible way the Devils are relevant any time soon, short of Brodeur returning to form.
