You need both, smart FA signings and smart drafting, to be good.

Teams like NJ who have so much money committed to pieces who aren't contributing basically have no choice but to rebuild now, imo. It is a similiar situation as to how I fear the decline of Briere, Pronger and Timonen may cripple the Flyers; however, NJ doesn't have a young core like the Flyers have.
