While I understand your position, I have to say that I believe that you greatly underestimate the rather poorous shape of the NHL and the effect of an alienated fanbase. YOU can casually disregard the effects of the lockout and "meh" the would-be empty buildings, but is that really good for the game? With no national television outlet, how long until the local cable contracts go?
I think that you greatly underestimate the negative effects that the lockout has inflicted upon the "serious" fan. And I think that those effects will be felt when the games are played in front of mostly empty buildings, for the better part of several years. As a hockey fan, I certainly hope that interest comes back, but as a real person living in the real world, I tend to doubt it.
