I think they had faith in Goodenow and their union reps and they lead them down the wrong path. Somebody convinced the players (most of them) that the owners were lying about revenues and would eventually give in. The players bluffed with a pair of threes and the owners had a full house.

I love hearing players like JR whine about how they're getting screwed. I say let (most of) the aging "superstars" retire. This will make room for more young, hungry players, better competition and a better league.

Look at the Rangers, Redwings, Leafs - questionable management overpaying for superstars to underachieve. Give me a league full of teams like Calgary and Tampa Bay -spending money wisely.
