So I had no idea about that freaky thaw we were going to get the week after Christmas and New Years. My rink finally completely froze, I put two more layers on it to get it just right, and just as it was ready to go the whole freaking thing thawed out. I had a backyard swimming pool, it was ridiculous. Then, we had warmer than usual temps and snow for about two weeks, so the top froze just a little and then it was covered in snow. I could not shovel the snow off until the rink froze completely, (the snow insulated the surface, making it take much longer to freeze) and by the time the rink was completely solid all the snow had created a very rough surface. So far it has snowed on and off since New Years, so every time I try to put a new layer on it ends up with snow/slush on it and freezes rough. I just put another layer on this morning, and I'm hoping the snow holds off long enough to freeze nice and smooth.
