It would depend on when they came back. If they do not come back during the regular season it would not matter. Because in the playoffs nothing counts against the salary cap.
But not everyone will be out that long, so yes when they come back they would have to clear space. Which only strengthens what I was saying. I was saying even IF they signed Nabokov to the maximum of what they can at this point in time. Someone would grab him up on the waiver wire.
Even though they "can" sign him for their maximum space, they "can't" because they would have to clear room for him/other players coming off of LTIR as they do.
So they will have to sign him to a lower cap hit, in which case there are a lot of teams that would snag him on the wire regardless of how high of a playoff bonus the Wings put in the contract.
