Traded a 3rd round pick in the 2011 draft to Dallas for the negotiating rights to Brad Richards. Draft is June 24-25. It gives the Rangers 6-7 days to negotiate with Pat Morris.

Signed Richards to 5 year deal worth $32.5M. $6.5m cap hit. Front-loaded deal. NMC in the first 3 years. Limited NTC the last 2 years. Richards will need to take a pay cut in Dallas. He won't sign there unless the team is sold. The lenders are trying to sell the team. It could happen next week, next month or next fall. TB doesn't have the cash. LA is scared to do anything. Rangers it is.

Rangers keep Blake until the end of camp and send him to the AHL clearing $4M. A Blake buyout carries a $2M cap hit for 11-12. The Rangers will probably have more than 1 arbitration case so they could buyout Blake in August if they wanted to go in that direction. CBA allows teams to buyout players outside the ordinary buyout period in June if they have more than 1 arbitration case.

In the summer cap,MDZ,McD and MZ will have a pro-rated cap hit based on the number of days they spent in the NHL this season.

Ruslan Fedotenko comes to camp on a tryout with the contract already done. It can't signed and registered until the last day of camp.

Erik Christensen becomes a cap casualty at some point to sign a defenseman.

Derek Boogaard is assigned to the AHL.
Perfect contract for Richards...But will Morris accept those terms in the last two years? I mean Richards I think would like to end up here. While I think that may be the case, I am uncertain about him not leaving the ball in his court. He was pretty happy about having "control" in that last interview with MSG.
