He said he initially had back spasms, but then the doctors found sound bone fragments in his lower back and he has seen alot of specialists etc. He said he couldn't walk up steps because his quad muscle wouldn't engage. He obviously has some lower back nerve damage that has come about over the years of playing. I think he mentioned he is like 25% so I doubt he plays at all if ever again on the ice.
