He contributed to their '03 run, but honestly he underperformed in those playoffs. Badly.
He was by far the highest paid player on the team (and one of the top 5 in the league) yet I could name a half dozen or more Ducks who contributed more in those playoffs:
Rucchin (best two-way player)
Carney (their rock on D)
Leclerc (scored or assisted the gwg 7 times out of their 15 wins)
Oates (many key assists)
Ozolinsh (gave them a consistent blueline threat)
Salei (played the best hockey of his career)
Sykora (was a more consistent threat offensively than Kariya)
For a $10 million player to get outplayed for two months by that many guys, is nothing short of pathetic. Make no mistake, he was a passenger on that team's playoff run. He had that memorable 10 minutes in the Finals, and a 2 goal game in the sweep of Minny, and that was IT for him; 2 good games in 2 months. If he'd actually played like the superstar he supposedly was, instead of playing like a mediocre 2nd liner, they probably win the Cup that year.
