Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I'm not even sure you'll be able to find a Motel 6 for $60-$70 a night. Especially in that area.

The Metro Red Line runs between Downtown LA and North Hollywood and goes right through Hollywood. Here is the link to the map/timetables...

maybe you can use this as a tool to find hotels near a stop?

EDIT: Los Feliz is a nice area but there are plenty of parts of Hollywood that are not. As far as finding the best deal, try using tripadvisor.com as you can search all the major travel sites in one click. Once you zero in on a hotel or area and have narrowed your options, search for coupon codes at all the major travel sites. For example, last week I went to see teh Kings/Coyotes in Phoenix. I found a hotel that I liked that was $80 a night and was able to track down a coupon code for orbitz and get it for $70 a night. I was originally gonna buy it from expedia who had the cheapest (regular) price.
