I disagree with your sentiment that it's a dumb move, but you are correct to point out that Stortini's not goon, he's basically an agitator that for the most part fights his own battles. I think fans of other teams may have the wrong perception about Stortini because he's been required to be the defacto enforcer on many nights for the ultra soft Oilers of the last couple of years. He's not a good enforcer, but he's always been game (his last fight/debacle excepted).

That being said, Stortini's easily had his worst ever year in the NHL, and the main reason you waive him for assignment is because Liam Reddox has made it clear that he should not be exposed to waivers again, and Jacques hits more consistently and more effectively than Stortini.
