I think I was responding in parts. I think rake (and sorry rake if I had interpreted this differently) suggested that Bettman's expansion wasn't bad, as evidenced by the decent attendance in Columbus and Minnesota, in particular, points that were accentuated by ESPN this week on its website. My response to that was that just because those teams are doing well doesn't mean that the expansion was a success - since the league didn't really need more teams.

And I do agree...15 stacked teams doesn't increase viewership. No ESPN games with Carolina, Anaheim, Nashville or Florida might, however, as I'd guess (and could be wrong) that their games do not attract a lot of national viewership and if replaced with the Wings, Leafs, Bruins or even Dallas, you may have an increase due to an increase in quality games.
