Agreed.. I've always had a gripe with the league seemingly using the severity of an injury as the deciding factor in suspension length... I mean you could board a player, and if he gets right back up and is fine, you may get a 2 minute minor or at most a 5 minute major, and the league usually leaves at at that... But on the exact same play, if the player on the receiving end hit his head and sustained a significant concussion, league likely steps in and doles out a lengthy suspension.... The act needs to be punished and deterred independent of the severity of the resulting injury....
I think the CHL got it right when they handed out a 8 game suspension to Gudbranson for his jumping high hit even though the opposing player was seemingly fine afterwards:
