If I'm Bobby Clarke, I do the following:

Buyouts for John Leclair, Tony Amonte, Donald Brashear, and Jeremy Roenick. That's a little over $18 million in savings. Our payroll is now just above 15 million.

From there, Seidenberg, Sharp, Somik and Radivojevic each get contracts in the neighbourhood of $500,000 per year. That brings the payroll to 17 million and change.

Sign Gagne to a 2.5 million deal, Johnsson to a 2.25 million deal, and Esche to a 1.8 million deal and payroll is now up at 23.55 million. Add Carter and Richards at $850,000 each and it's up at 25.25 million. Now, I'd talk about adding the following players:

Cory Stillman - 2.25 million; Pavol Demitra - 2.75; Alexei Zhitnik - 2.5 million; Mike Rathje - 1.5 million. That leaves us at 34.25 million and about 4 million bucks to spare. Nothing wrong with having that little extra. You can then put together the following lines:

Somik is the extra forward

Defense looks like the following:

Goaltending is Esche and Niittymaki. It's not a bad lineup at all.
