And who's to say that Thornton doesn't ask Boston for 6.5 to 7 million a year? Or that Samsonov doesn't ask Boston for 4.5 to 5 million? Do you not think that Thornton and Samsonov won't try to squeeze the Bruins in the slightest? As for Ottawa and their free agents, they've been very good to the players (the exception possibly being Havlat) in terms of compensation, so it won't surprise me in the slightest to see them sign with Ottawa for less.

I'd be surprised to see Samsonov get anything more than $3.5 million a year, and I'd have no problem signing Thornton for $6.5 million a year. He's certainly worth it.
