I've heard all the K-AD talk: "he didn't fit TM's or DL's system, he had his chance here, he didn't have the tattoo" - whatever. (who DOES have the tattoo?)
Obviously, the NYI staff saw something in Moulsen that the Kings management and/or coaches did not. Or they were able to develop something in Moulsen that the Kings couldn't.
You wanna look at team records? Right now, both teams are out of a playoff spot.
The future: wouldn't the Kings future would be much brighter adding (keeping!) a 20-goal scorer?! And quite honestly, the NYI have built up a very strong group of young talented players - including Moulsen.
Moulsen will likely wind up with 27 - 30 goals for the season. That is a young discarded ex-Kings player? Yes.
This is easily one of DL's worst blunders (there are several to choose from).
In other news, Noah Clarke is playing in Germany, Lauri Tukonen is in Europe somewhere, Konstantin Pushkarov was an AHL flop now in the KHL and Dany Roussin is gooning it up in Quebec. Guess DL should have kept them too, just in case the light finally came on.
Not everyone pans out and there is the odd player that leaves a team and lands on another and lights it up. Don't forget Pittsburgh also gave up on Moulson too, so it's not like DL had a brain cramp here. The best example is Martin St. Louis, who was let go by Calgary, only to win a scoring title in Tampa Bay. $h!t happens.
Revisionist history is awesome, because the teller, in this case you Butch 19, is always right. All I know for a fact is that the current LA club is a lot better than the one we had when Moulson was here, so for as many blunders as you claim DL has made, he's clearly made more good decisions.
I'd also question how good this decision would have looked for NYI if they didn't have basically a free for all of ice time when Moulson joined last year, unlike in LA where we at least had some established wingers gunning for top six ice time and had just traded to get Ryan Smyth as well. If Moulson doesn't land on Tavares' win, does he get 30 goals? Doubtful. And what other team in the NHl could offer Moulson that kind of ice and opportunity? None, just NYI.
