IMO, the most damaging thing they could do is sign good-but-not-great UFA's who are 31 and over and aren't going to win a Cup...but in the meantime will block the kids from getting ice time and roster spots WHEN they EARN them. And that's my fear about them signing guys like Demitra, Palffy and Kariya. They're not going to win any Cups with them so they'll just be taking up space and ice time that the kids should get at some point. then the kings miss the playoffs and won't earn the extra cash thats associated with making the playoffs...couple that with a possible decline in attendance if they don't do well on the ice.

hockey may not recover in socal for many years...would that be acceptable?

and who's to say that playing the younger kids would get the kings a cup in the future? its still a big unknown just like saying demitra and palffy won't get you the cup anytime soon.
