I'm half and half on the trade. I was a big fan of Gallinari. Felton was having a tremendous year. Chandler was doing well too. Mozgov is an afterthought in the process. In addition to giving up three starters a 1st round pick in 2014 and two 2nd round picks? A little too steep in my opinion. If Carmello works out in New York though then he and Stoudemire can maybe give this team a real push.
I did not see the need for the trade. Carmelo openly stated that he wanted to be a Knick. Just because the Nets could have acquired him does not mean he would have signed an extension with them. They could have signed Carmello over the Summer and kept most of their assets. Sure, Gallinari isn't going to be Carmelo Anthony but he is developing and still has plenty of room to improve. Ugh, you just hate to see when a player your a fan of leaves... I guess thats why it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I really liked the game Felton was playing too, after Stoudemire he's been the most consistent player this year.
Acquiring Billups makes the deal better. But he is what, 34/35 years old?
Hopefully this all pans out. Overall not a bad deal, the Knicks acquire a superstar and in a game of superstars that is a HUGE acquisition but at the same time they gave up a lot to get this guy.
