At first glance, Pittsburgh sounds preposterous. But if you think about it, there are reasons why it could be attractive for both sides.

Any player is going to be attracted to the possibility of playing with #66. (They also have the respected vet Rechhi.)

Though very inexperienced, the Pens have a promising nucleus and potentially could get "well" quick, in the new NHL. I personally think that as long as Mario is still skating, and with the momentum of getting Crosby, the Pens will look to bolster their roster with some proven talent and make a playoff push near-term, while at the same time laying the groundwork for potential future success with their deep pool of young talent.

The Pens talent, for the most part, is young, meaning it will come cheaply for them, nearer-term. That may leave $$$ over to sign a quality vet dman who can log significant minutes, which they are sorely lacking.

As a missing QB at the point, Leetch gives them a potentially lethal PP, which they enjoyed in their heyday.

He has ties to Craig Patrick and Eddie O.

He remains in the East, relatively close to NY area.

I'm sure Leetch in Pittsburgh is about the last thing many NYR fans even want to even consider, given the ill will coming out of Friday's draft. (Spare the "screw the Pens" retorts.) However, looking at it from an unbiased hockey perspective, it is plausible.
