No, an 87 flex stick is not as soft as you think.

It will actually allow you to receive harder passes easier and you will have a harder wrist and snap shot with the lower flex.

Chances are at your weight your slap shot will increase in velocity as well because I doubt at 165 lbs that you are getting everything you can from a 100 flex stick.
