It seems like you really like DD and I know it's a little early to say this, but I think he's only gonna be a 3rd line center, which is great in the new NHL since you need scoring from your top9.
DD cannot play against top lines because he isn't fast/strong enough to contain them.

I pretty much agree with this.
Desharnais will make a fine third line centre and will help the Habs in the near future, at obtaining a good top-9, due to playing against bottom pairing defensemen. Versteeg was very good for Chicago, playing on the bottom 6 and against bottom pairing defensemen. He was put into Toronto's top 6 and everyone wondered why his production dropped.
