1. Joel Armia (Likely 1st rounder)
2. Christopher Gibson (2nd round?)
3. Samu Perhonen (2nd or 3rd round?)
4. Miikka Salomäki (2nd, 3rd or 4th round?)
5. Sami Salminen (Mid to late rounder?)
6. Markus Granlund (Mid to late rounder?)
7. Jyrki Jokipakka (Mid to late rounder?)
8. Alexander Ruuttu (Possible late round pick?)
-. Juha-Pekka Pietilä (Huge steps in development, could be seen as a project?)
-. Mika Partanen (Memorial Cup the last chance to shine?)
-. Samuli Piipponen (Finally healthy, needs to make the WU18C’s team and perform.)

1. Olli Määttä (Possible 1st or 2nd rounder?)

-. Ville Pokka (How much will he be able to improve his mobility?)
-. Kalle Torniainen (Has skill and wheels, but is smallish and weak)
-. Teuvo Teräväinen (Has skill and vision, but is smallish and weak)
-. Mikko Lehtonen (A lot to like, but NA defensemen are often bigger)
-. Mikko Vainonen (Seems like a reliable defenseman)
-. Markus Kojo (Size, grit and a mean attitude)
-. Oskari Setänen (Weak year for goalies, my best guess at the moment)
-. Henri Ikonen (Pretty good wheels and a good shot, could be more creative)

A lot will happen before the draft, so we will partially be talking about different guys next year.

1. Aleksandr “Sasha” Barkov (Potential 1st or 2nd rounder?)
2. Rasmus Ristolainen (Potential 1st or 2nd rounder?)
3. Ville Husso (A promising goalie, but is HIFK the best place for development?)

A lot will change during the next two years, so it’s early to be talking about this draft. It’s really hard to predict the future of some of the smaller players like Juuso Ikonen, Artturi Lehkonen, Jonatan Tanus, Kevin Lankinen, Aleksi Mustonen and Sami Anttila. Some of the bigger guys showing promise are Eetu Koivistoinen, Atte Mäkinen (The defenseman from Tappara), Joose Antonen and Saku Salminen. Overall there’s enough depth to be optimistic about the possibility of seeing a Finnish 1st rounder in 2013. In the end the 1st rounder could end up being someone that’s not making much noise at the moment.

None of the forwards that I’ve seen this year have impressed me that much. This draft could be similar with 2012 and have better prospects in the defensive end. You don’t have to be a fortune teller to tell that Joni Tuulola, Alex Lintuniemi, Jaakko Hälli and Eetu Sopanen are among the defensemen that are worth keeping an eye on as potential draft picks. Still, it’s really early and there’s plenty of time for surprises.
