How about Nylander? They signed him after the rebuilding had started. Was he signed only to help the rebuilding?
This was indeed a mistake and while I hope you're right about DK's salary not being a hindrance, time will tell. What can be definitively stated now is this: in overpaying an average player, the team has limited its cap flexibility. Whether or not it ever bites them on the ass, that's a mistake in a hard-cap league. It's a shortsighted strategy in a league that calls for vision.
Nylander was signed to filled a void as our first line center. No kids are going to be playing on the top line until they EARN it. Give me a break about overpaying...its 3 million dollars! 90% of the teams out there would give the guy 2 million so we are overpaying him by a million? Oh no we are doomed now in the future...when we want to go out and spend 7.8 million on a player we won't be able to now because of Kaspar salary.
