Be careful what you wish for with Messier. Reports always had it was Mess who talked Neil Smith out of trading Kovalev for Shanahan when Shanahan was in his prime. It was Mess who pushed Smith to make those terrible deals at the deadline in 96 (Ferraro, Laperriere, Norstrom for Churla, McSorley, and Kurri). Before that trade, the team was flying. Had 2 good scoring lines with Mess, Graves,Verbeek, and than Ferraro, Robitaille, Kovalev. Team was in first place and fell apart after that trade. People talk about the 92 team should have ended the curse, but the 96 team should have made it 2 of 3.
