Still, 500 000 is far more than anyone working an average job can expect to make. An average salary here in crappy jobville Vancouver is 32 500. In one year a player like Pyatt can make as much as 15 years worth of salary for an average worker. Unless they make stupid investments, and live in Vancouver where a 500 000 salary will buy you a crack shack , most players are relatively well off.

For many of these borderline players, a living can easily be made in Europe or in coaching/hockey schools/etc.
