I am not so sure that this deal is the death knell for the new economic order of the NHL, no single team can be more of a have than any other, that is the whole point of the cap.
This contract seems to be too high, this is Doug Mclean's problem (and his and the Blue Jackets' only).
Any other young player holding out for this amount will be sorely disappointed, as their rights are held by one team and few others will be able to take on that kind of salary and so no one will want trade for them as any team tempted will know their demands before hand.
The league should not even try to refuse this contract, but instead use the jackets as an example when they either can't add a player they need or have to trade off other talented young players (zherdev and Brule have been mentioned already) simply because Nash is making that amount.
