Lindros' pending UFA status at the end of this year will make any offer the Rangers get for him VERY low... because everyone knows that as soon as he becomes a UFA, he's going to hold out hope that the Leafs will sign him so that he can end up back in Toronto...
Yes he'll take a huge pay cut... Nieuwendyk will retire, and likely Lindros will be the new #2 center behind Sundin... Antropov could be moved to the wing, or Sundin could be... I wouldn't be at all suprised to see that happen... HOWEVER, we all know that Quinn was pretty high on Lindros... Can the same be said for Ferguson Jr.? I haven't heard anything from him about his thoughts on Lindros so he might not like him at all...
Anyways, if the Rangers trade Lindros, it will either be in a deal to another team for another high priced underperforming player, or they'll trade him for a mid range player, or a prospect or pick... Because no team is going to ante up and give a good offer to the Rangers to get Lindros for the remainder of this season only, knowing that he'll be gone to Toronto, or at least holding out for them, at the end of the year... And Toronto won't trade for him, knowing that they need defense more, and that they can have him for free at the end of the year...
