Hagelin was a PPG player for the last 2 seasons as an adult, playing against adults at the NCAA level... I'm not impressed by Sjostrom putting up points in the CHL relying on his speed and being faster than most of his teenage competition.... Size and/or speed can give you a big advantage in the CHL when you're up against players who maybe aren't as physically developed as they will be as adults....
Sjostrom is nothing but a PK specialist.... His defensive play in the d zone is nothing to write home about... His back-checking is good but that's about all I noticed watching him play. He doesn't have good hands, playmaking ability with the puck, or a nose for the net. He's capable of cycling with the puck but not generating much off the cycle....
Turning into a Sjostrom is the worst case scenario for Hagelin IMHO. He's already demonstrated greater offensive awareness playing against adults than we've ever seen from Sjostrom playing at the Pro level....
All the media coming out of Detroit indicates that Red Berenson groomed/molded Hagelin into a complete/2-way player during his 4 years at Michigan... He should be able to contribute on both ends of the ice if all goes well...
