I agree with you. The problem is that I don't get to watch that many BC games. The primary way I (and 95% of the people here) judge our prospects are 1) preseason; 2) WJC; 3) WC; 4) reports from others including newspaper/websites, fans who watch games and scouting bureaus.
It's not the worst way to judge prospects either. It might be easy to dominate little 18 year old boys in college, but when you move up to play against those who are very talented (WJC) or older/stronger (WC), that's the time to judge how good you look.
If I had to watch only a dozen games a year per prospect, it would certainly be WJC and WC.
It's not a complete picture, but my full time job isn't to scout Ranger prospects, so I will never have a complete picture.
