-- The Dispatch has learned that Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson and assistant GM Chris MacFarland had a 2 1/2 hour meeting with management in Springfield, Mass., home of the AHL affiliate. Among the topics discussed was the need for a "defenseman" coach, somebody who can guide the young prospects toward an NHL career. They did not have such a coach this season, which may have been a mistake. Further, the Falcons asked for more assurances that the Blue Jackets would provide them with the talent to at least be an AHL playoff club. They were stung early this season when Derek MacKenzie and Kyle Wilson -- both high-end AHL scorers -- made the big club..
The first part is consistent with that we've been hearing.
