Montreal had three great centers, but that was about it (Turgeon, Damphousse and Koivu).

The team's defense was suspect at best, and other than Mark Recchi (without the Roy trade) they had no decent wingers (next in scoring was Valeri Bure).

I mean, anything's possible, but I'd say that even if you mentally DQ Colorado for not having Roy... Detroit has to be the favorite by a mile and a half. They won 63 games that year. Pittsburgh and Philly were good that year too.

Montreal might have made more of a dent, but they were not going to take the Cup unless Roy won it alone.
