Real fast for those who didn't get Stanton's point:
If you have an abundance of 1st round picks... you stand a very good chance of getting a high percentage of NHL calibre players, no matter what your system of vetting the draft is.
And how do you achieve an abundance: failure. The NHL rewards failure.
Combine this with the fire sale (did you guys forget we did that?) and you pile them up.
NOTE: this doesn't mean you're gonna get a team of AO's... rather, you'll get players who are capable of playing in the NHL.
And what do we see?
I count 11 - 1st's on the roster:
Is this great drafting?
Consider: the Red Wings haven't had a top ten first round pick since 1991 (Primeau)... yet look at all the players they've found over the years in the late rounds.
GMGM has not done the job you all think he has.
