It's possible, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess most of these injuries resulted from repeated contact during games. Just something that was bothering them, but they let it go. It got worse because they didn't take any time off to rest it, and they just hid it. I'm sure training too hard could have exacerbated the injuries but they were likely going to happen anyway.
