After trying to assemble a team based on my limited knowledge of the rest of the league, the U.S. isn't as deep as I hoped. edit- I guess I agree that the U.S. isn't particularly strong though I think they can compete for a top 3 spot, but if Canada puts together a team that works well together, and takes the Olympic Games seriously they should definitely be able to medal.

Also the talent level of the NHL is pretty high as a decent number of players playing for the other major hockey countries play in the NHL, and there would likely be more if the playoffs weren't going on now, or the players chose to play in the World Cup.
