They were going to revolutionize hockey, until it was discovered (the hard way) that the protection was nowhere near good enough. I had a few friends ruin their knees sliding into the boards while wearing Cooperalls.
The sliding is the excuse they used to ban them, but most players still elected to wear the Cooperall padding after the pants were banned, so it was a step forward in hockey equipment, and basically paved the way for modern girdles and shells.
