If I recall, he was nearly scratched down there because of it for a few games as well.
Last year when he was cut at camp, it was after playing 4 consecutive preseason games for the Oilers to finish out the rest of camp. Lowe himself said it was a very difficult to decision.
Can we really blame him for slumping as soon as he got demoted? Chimera did it. Rita did it. And I'm sure you can find a good many players that were disappointed at getting the boot after what they believed was a successful showing at the NHL level.
I think what's more important is that we saw none of that slumping Semenov here in Edmonton in 40 plus games... and even when he was not as effective he still didn't hurt the team.
