Mitchell is eligible for a 2 way QO. How much AHL money? $105,000 AHL is the most Mitchell can get without needing to clear re-entry waivers. How does Mitchell view himself? Is he an AHLer or NHLer? Would he sign a two way deal of $525,000 NHL and $105,000 AHL? The Rangers are within their rights to offer Mitchell that deal but it also makes him attractive to other teams. How many teams want to spend $525,000 for a player in the AHL if its a one way deal?

The re-entry regulation is why nearly all upper-echelon AHL free-agent signees have an AHL salary of $105,000. Thatís the threshold for re-entry waivers. Make $105,000 or less in the AHL and only normal waiver rules apply. The purpose of the rule is to prevent rich NHL teams from stashing lots of on-the-fringe or salary-cap victims on the minor-league roster.
