To their credit, once they were sure that Boyd was terrible they dumped him to the minors and didn't once get tempted to bring him back. I have my doubts that Dawes would be any better than Pouliot and they'd be playing for the same role as bottom six goalscorer. Moen and Pyatt are there to be defensive specialists and penalty killers and so that leaves Darche or White as players to beat out for a spot. I don't think there is all that much to indicate that he's good enough to be worth bumping off one of them.
