Stafford doesn't kill penalties, doesn't take face-offs, and doesn't play as physical. Speaking of problems with consistency, Stafford had 4 hat tricks that elevated his goal numbers.

Dubinsky is much more important to the Rangers than Stafford is to Buffalo. He plays in all situations against the other team's top players. Stafford's role is to provide secondary scoring.

Buffalo overpaid Stafford. Their new owner wants to show that he is commited to the team. But, Stafford has never been close to 30 goals before. $4 million in cap space for 4 years is a lot to gamble that this season wasn't a fluke.

This can only work against the Rangers in negotiations with Dubinsky and Callahan, because they are both more valuable than Stafford.
