It does not make sense for Morrisonn in that it costs them vet depth AND cap space for this season and next. If they want to move Morrisonn, there are teams near the cap floor and teams looking for vet bottom pairing guys. He's got one year left on his deal which can be appealling as a transition player. If they do decide to move him, they likely could for a mid-late pick (5/6/7th rounder) and then not have his salary at all OR they put stash him in the AHL at which point he might be claimed on recall which sucks if he was needed but only puts them on the hook for salary this year or he goes unclaimed OR he sticks with the team and they pay his last year and have a depth vet blueliner.

They don't need to buy anyone out. It's just silly and bad asset management this year and next.
