They had numerous injuries on D, and O'Byrne played way too much for his skills set.
I don't think the slump was due to O'Byrne, he was solid based on stats (not many points, but good +/- relative to the team) and according to game reports he was playing solid hockey.
Of course once Colorado traded a good goalie for a bad one the team tanked.
